A female prisoner is dropped into a cement box with three other inmates and a guard. What follows is a dark, hallucinogenic play about sexual and political domination marking a period of intense formal and linguistic experimentation for the company. The Zero Yard was the Riot Group's riskiest endeavor.

The Zero Yard, a Riot Group production, was first performed at Sarah Lawrence College on April 13, 2000 and subsequently opened at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival on August 6, 2000 in a co-production with the Garage Theatre. The cast was as follows:
