The life and writings of John Hinckley Jr. and his attempted assassination of the president in 1980 constitute the raw material for Why I Want to Shoot Ronald Reagan, a multi-layered epic monologue which explores the intersections between fame, fan culture, madness and America's cult of death. Why I Want to Shoot Ronald Reagan (performed under a slightly different title in Edinburgh) was the first Riot Group production to synchronize text with a continuous musical score.
